Born in the north Nottinghamshire village of Kirkby-in-Ashfield at the start of the Second World War, Roy Case was educated at the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Mansfield. He retired from the position of Managing Director of a large interior contracting company at the age of 55, and subsequently devoted time to his true passion of sport.

After voluntarily serving England Golf for a number of years he was elected its President in 2008, and presented with the Gerald Micklem Award for outstanding service to amateur golf. Case also served for more than a decade on the Great Britain & Ireland Boys Selection Committee of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. 

A keen follower of cricket, Case is a member of the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians.

Many of the world’s leading professional golfers competed in the McGregor Trophy as youngsters, and fondly remember the important part the tournament played in their development. The McGregor Trophy was inaugurated in 1982, and quickly attracted top boy golfers from throughout the UK and Europe. It was later adopted by England Golf as the English Boys’ Under 16 Open Stroke Play Championship in 1993.

An appealing story of a team of a dozen English cricketers which travelled to Canada and North America in 1859 to compete in the very first inter-continental sporting tour.

It tells of the early origins of the game and provides an intimate insight into the lives of the players who bravely embarked on the perilous trans-Atlantic journey.
